Many people misunderstand the practices of observant Jews. From wrapping tefilin (phalacteries) to lighting Shabbat candles, most observers believe that these practices are formed and concretized rules stemming from a sort of archaic neurosis. Nothing can be further from the truth.
The purpose of Creation is to reveal the Creator hidden within. This light of the Creator hidden within each facet of Creation can only be revealed through thought, speech, or action. By actively undertaking this “partnership” with the Almighty to reveal the Creator’s light, we become a partner in Creation and thus activate the tiny spark of the Creator held deep within us. The more light we reveal around us, the more light is revealed within us. In essence the practices or in Hebrew Halacha we do, are a collection of tools meant to reveal the light of the Creator. In doing so we make the creation and ourselves a vessel for this light. Afterall the numerical value of Halacha is Clee, which translated to English means tool.
